The 1968 Tet Offensive was a massive, coordinated surprise attack by North Vietnamese and Viet Cong forces against South Vietnamese and U.S. positions during the Lunar New Year holiday. While a tactical victory for the U.S. and South Vietnam, it became a strategic, political defeat for the U.S. by eroding public support for the war, changing the conflict's perception from winnable to endless.
