Dan
Bolster served with the 366th Security Police Squadron at Đà Nàng
Air Base with me. He was a quick wit of a man who always smiled. My
recollection is that he was cleaning a .45 in his hooch during the rainy
season and according to his hooch mates was pulling the charging handle
and dry firing the weapon again and again and again, when somebody suggested
they would shove the thing up his ass if he did it again because it
was annoying. Apparently at the same time the comment was made, Dan
was sliding the magazine in to the weapon and said something to the
effect of, "Well I'd just kill myself if that happened" and put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger. It discharged of
course as it had stripped a round the last time the charging handle
was pulled. I'm sure it was an accident.
I'll look for pictures but I'm pretty sure I don't have any of Dan.
