366th K-9 Association

The 366th SPS K-9 Association is a group of handlers that served at Da Nang Air Base, Republic of Viet Nam during the period of 1965 to 1972.  They all worked in the same dirt, and in some cases, handled the same dog.  They have no dues, no expectations, and no rules.  They enjoy each other’s company and enjoy getting together to talk over old times and catch up on what’s happened to each other now that the years have past.  A roster of names and contact information is maintained that can be distributed to group members.  Reunions, etc, can be called at any time by anyone who wants to do the ground work to accomplish it.

A Reunion is being planned for this fall in the Nashville, TN area. It will be from September 29, 2011 (Thursday) thru October 2, 2011. As of early April,  it appears that the turnout will be good.

According to Steven Luz:

Best Western Brentwood
5581 Franklin Pike Circle
Brentwood, TN 37027
Location: I-65, exit 74A
Phone: (615) 373-8585

The daily rate is $79.99 per night, which includes a free breakfast everyday. This rate applies to 3 days before the reunion and 3 days after. As of today, it looks like we already have 15 rooms spoken for. My contact, Tammy, advised me she will continue to sell rooms at that rate to our group until she runs out of rooms.

As been the practice for the past 6 reunions, there will be no registration fees or hidden costs. We had a formal banquet at the first Riverside Reunion a few years ago and it didn't work out too well. So, we'll do what we've done at previous reunions and find a nice restaurant for Saturday for an "informal" banquet.  After making your reservations at Best Western, please shoot me off a email so I can maintain a list of attendees and spouses (guests).

Their 2009 reunion in Riverside, CA. It was the 10th anniversary of the War Dog Memorial at the March AFB Museum. Of the 62 handlers attending the VDHA reunion, 19 were from the 366th SPS K-9, originally located at Da Nang Air Base, Republic of Viet Nam, better known as "Rocket City".

The majority of the handlers were accompanied by their wives, so it was a family affair. Those in attendance were Steve and Sue Luz, Greg Dunlap, Marc Hampton, Jim and Linda Click, Paul and Barbara Halbmaier, Fred and Rita Hewitt, Jerry and Pat Kellogg, Chet Moore, Bruce and Judy Zewe, John and Laura Worsham, Gail B and Shirley Johnson, Ernie and Bonnie Gowell, Doug Greenough, Mac and Vickie McDonough. “Top Dog 45” handlers were also present, Don Poss, Don and Gail Jones, Gary Knutson, Mike Glines, John Weaver, and Byron and Elaine Martin.

The bad weather being experienced in the country at the time prevented Ron Wolford and Jimmy “Clem” Gifford from being there.  They were missed. The city of Nashville, TN has been discussed as the site of the 2011 reunion.
