Strike Team vs. 75mm Recoiless
12) This is what happened when a 75mm recoilless rifle shell hit the radiator of an SP Jeep. The strike team had abandoned the Jeep for the safety of a bunker just prior to the hit. Our mascot, a black and white, short hair, mix breed female (about 10 pounds worth) was killed with shrapnel. She was pretty special to me as she ran to my bunker on the flight line one other time and jumped in with me. We could hear one of the rounds whistling in, and when it could not be heard, she crawled inside my jungle fatigue shirt between me and the sand! I never did figure out how she got in that small of a space, as I was really making love to the ground. Any way, the round went off about five yards behind us. I think the jeep-killing was in the next attack.

Two SPs
14) Two AP's, I don't remember the one on the
left, but the guy with the cigarette is Harper.

Three SP acting Crazy!
15) This one is three of us who hung out together a lot when not on duty.
Sleep deprivation makes anything seem funny! Photo: Left to Right, John
Sharpe, Duke Windsor, and Markham. We were ready for just about any kind
of duty at the time of the pix.
